How to play

How GeoGame Works

Every round is a compact geography puzzle: gather evidence, make a map guess, then learn from the distance.

Explore the location

Move through the street-level scene and scan the roads, buildings, terrain, and horizon before you commit to a guess.

Read the clues

Use signs, road markings, architecture, vegetation, traffic side, language, and license plates to narrow the country, region, or city.

Guess on the world map

Place a pin where you think the panorama was captured. A closer map guess earns a higher score by distance.

Questions

GeoGame FAQ

Direct answers about the free geography guessing game, Street View rounds, guest access, party play, scoring, and how GeoGame compares with GeoGuessr.

What is GeoGame?

GeoGame is a geography guessing game where you explore a random street-level location, study the visible clues, and place a pin on the world map. The game scores your guess by distance, so reading the scene carefully matters more than clicking quickly or memorizing one obvious landmark.

Is GeoGame a free GeoGuessr alternative?

Yes, and it is completely free with no paywalls. Every game mode is playable at no cost, with nothing locked behind a subscription or premium tier. GeoGame is a free GeoGuessr alternative for street view geography rounds in the browser: jump in, play solo or with friends, and practice turning real-world clues into a precise map guess.

How do you play GeoGame?

To play GeoGame, start a round, explore the street-level view, and look for location clues such as signs, road lines, architecture, terrain, and language. When you think you know where you are, place a pin on the world map and submit your guess to see your distance and score.

Does GeoGame use Street View?

Yes. GeoGame uses real Google Street View panoramas for every round, so you explore genuine street-level imagery captured around the world rather than simulated scenes. Because the panoramas are real, the useful clues are the same details geography players already look for: roads, buildings, signs, landscapes, regional visual patterns, and how places are connected across the map.

Do I need an account to play?

No. You can continue as a guest to start playing GeoGame quickly, no account required. Google sign-in is available for account access and player identity where account features are needed, but the homepage play flow supports guest access for quick geography guessing rounds when you just want to drop in.

Can I play GeoGame with friends?

Yes, GeoGame includes party play for shared rounds with friends. You can use the party flow to create or join a game, then compare guesses and scores after each location. Solo play is also available when you want to practice on your own before a group session.

Does GeoGame have ranked matchmaking?

Yes. GeoGame has a competitive ranked mode with skill-based matchmaking that pairs you against players of a similar level. Win ranked matches to climb a full rank ladder — Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Champion, Grand Champion, and the apex Wizard rank — and see how you stack up against the rest of the world.

How does ranked matchmaking work?

When you queue for ranked, GeoGame matches you with opponents close to your current skill rating so every game stays competitive. Your first 10 placement matches set a starting rank, then each result adjusts your rating: beat stronger players and you climb faster. Ranked is available in Classic and Duel modes, each with its own rating, and every match uses the same fixed map, round count, and timer so results are fair to compare.

How does scoring work?

GeoGame scoring is based on distance from the correct location. After you place your pin on the map, the game compares your guess with the target location. The closer your guess, the higher your score, with precise guesses earning the best results and distant guesses still showing what to learn.

What clues should I look for to guess the location?

Useful clues include road signs, lane markings, bollards, license plates, languages, driving side, utility poles, architecture, vegetation, terrain, and sun position. Strong players combine several small details instead of relying on one clue, especially when a location looks familiar at first glance.

How does GeoGame prevent cheating?

GeoGame is built for fair play and actively combats cheating. We lock down the round metadata sent to your browser, so the real coordinates and location details are never exposed to the client for scripts, extensions, or network inspection to read. In NMPZ (No Move, Pan, Zoom) mode we also enforce the visible field of view on the server and limit the actual renderable area, which stops players from gaining an unfair advantage with ultrawide monitors, external 3D panorama viewers, or other tools that try to reveal more of the scene than the game intends.

Can I play GeoGame on mobile?

Yes. GeoGame runs in the browser, so you can open it on mobile or desktop. Larger screens make map guessing and street-level clue reading easier, but the responsive interface is built to keep the core location guessing flow usable across common device sizes and orientations during normal play.

How is GeoGame different from GeoGuessr?

GeoGame is an independent geography guessing game, not an official GeoGuessr product. It focuses on the core loop: explore a real street-level scene, read the clues, guess on a world map, and score by distance. It is free to start as a guest, supports solo and party play, and is built for fair play with server-side anti-cheat protections.
